Inside the Spellbound Suite: Virgin Hotels Edinburgh Review

A new kind of hotel stay has arrived in Edinburgh. The new Spellbound Suite at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh is a two-level suite designed as a playful, immersive experience, with a main bedroom downstairs and a separate upper level with twin beds, a sofa, film screen and snack corner. With space for families with children or up to four adults, it’s designed for sharing the experience together.

I had a little peek inside the suite at its launch this week, and got to explore the spaces and details for myself.

At the heart of the Spellbound Suite is the artwork. Created by Edinburgh-based artist Lynsey Jean Henderson, it runs throughout the space, bringing colour, character and a sense of story to every corner. You can see how much heart she put into every detail, while Joelle Interiors brought the overall interior design together, creating a space that feels playful and full of character.

During the launch, we spent most of our time exploring the upper level, with its twin beds, cosy seating area and plenty of details to discover.

And then there’s the location. The Spellbound Suite is part of Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, with views over Victoria Street from the upper level.

The magic starts before you even step inside

Even the entrance to the Spellbound Suite has been given a little magical touch. The door is marked “910 Spellbound Suite”, with an owl illustration and a beautifully detailed doorbell adding to the theme.

Once inside, the magical details continue. The hallway leads towards the main bedroom and bathroom, while the staircase ahead takes you up to the second level.

I loved how the artwork and little details continue along the walls and staircase, so the magic feels like it follows you through the suite rather than being confined to one room.

The magical room upstairs

And then you reach the upper level – a cosy space with twin beds, a sofa, a film screen and a little snack corner, all surrounded by whimsical artwork and magical details.

It feels more like a little space to hang out and have fun than just somewhere to sleep.

There’s even a little window seat where you can sit and look out onto Victoria Street below.

Victoria Street is often associated with Diagon Alley, so for anyone visiting Edinburgh because of its Harry Potter connections, staying here puts you right above one of the city’s most recognisable wizarding-inspired streets.

The main bedroom

Back downstairs, the main bedroom has a more understated feel, with a comfortable king-size bed, a sofa and plenty of space to relax.

The Spellbound Suite is part of Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, one of the highly rated hotels in Edinburgh’s Old Town. The hotel is right in the heart of the city, making it a convenient base for exploring many of Edinburgh’s most famous sights.

My first impressions of the Spellbound Suite

Having seen the Spellbound Suite for myself, I think what makes it stand out is how much thought has gone into creating an experience rather than simply decorating a hotel room.

I especially loved the little touches that make the space feel fun and immersive, while the location on Victoria Street adds another connection to Edinburgh itself.

I only had a chance to explore the suite during the launch, rather than stay overnight, so this isn’t a review of the full guest experience. But after seeing it in person, I can definitely understand why it will appeal to visitors looking for something a little different for their Edinburgh stay.
