Inside the Spellbound Suite: Virgin Hotels Edinburgh Review

Edinburgh just got something it didn’t have before.

I had a first look inside the brand-new Spellbound Suite at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh at its launch this week – and this is not your typical hotel suite.

Spread across two levels, the suite has a main bedroom downstairs, while upstairs feels like a completely different little world, with twin beds, a cosy seating area, a film screen, a snack corner and a window seat overlooking Victoria Street.

It can accommodate up to four adults or a family travelling with children, making it an unusual option for a group wanting to stay together in the heart of Edinburgh.

But the thing that really defines the Spellbound Suite is the artwork.

Edinburgh-based artist Lynsey Jean Henderson created the artwork throughout the suite, and she was at the launch to talk us through the creative process. You can see how much heart went into it – from the larger murals to the tiny details you notice as you move through the rooms.

Joelle Interiors brought the interiors together, creating a space that feels playful, colourful and full of character, while still feeling like a luxury hotel stay.

And then there is the setting. The suite is part of Virgin Hotels Edinburgh in the heart of the Old Town, with the upper level looking down onto Victoria Street – one of Edinburgh’s most recognisable streets.

So, let me take you inside…

The magic starts before you even step inside

Even the entrance has been thought through.

The door is marked “910 Spellbound Suite”, complete with an owl illustration and a beautifully detailed doorbell.

And once you step inside, the design continues around you, with artwork, books and little details leading you towards the staircase.

I loved how the artwork and little details continue along the walls and staircase, so the magic feels like it follows you through the suite rather than being confined to one room.

The magical room upstairs

And then you reach the upper level – a cosy space with twin beds, a sofa, a film screen and a little snack corner, all surrounded by whimsical artwork and magical details.

It feels more like a little space to hang out and have fun than just somewhere to sleep.

There’s even a little window seat where you can sit and look out onto Victoria Street below.

Victoria Street is often associated with Diagon Alley, so for anyone visiting Edinburgh because of its Harry Potter connections, staying here puts you right above one of the city’s most recognisable wizarding-inspired streets.

The main bedroom

Back downstairs, the main bedroom has a more understated feel, with a comfortable king-size bed, a sofa and plenty of space to relax.

The Spellbound Suite is part of Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, one of the highly rated hotels in Edinburgh’s Old Town. The hotel is right in the heart of the city, making it a convenient base for exploring many of Edinburgh’s most famous sights.

My first impressions of the Spellbound Suite

Having seen the Spellbound Suite for myself, I think what makes it stand out is how much thought has gone into creating an experience rather than simply decorating a hotel room.

I especially loved the little touches that make the space feel fun and immersive, while the location on Victoria Street adds another connection to Edinburgh itself.

I only had a chance to explore the suite during the launch, rather than stay overnight, so this isn’t a review of the full guest experience. But after seeing it in person, I can definitely understand why it will appeal to visitors looking for something a little different for their Edinburgh stay.
