Stuck between a hotel and an apartment? There’s a better option.
If you’ve ever found yourself eating cold takeout on a hotel bed while your suitcase explodes across the floor, you already know the problem. Hotels are fine, but they’re not exactly home.
That’s where aparthotels come in. And once you try one, it’s hard to go back.
You get actual space. A kitchen for your morning coffee (or late-night wine, no judgement). A sofa to properly sink into after walking the Royal Mile all day. But you also get the stuff that makes hotels worth it – a front desk, proper amenities, someone to sort things out if something goes wrong.
It’s the best of both worlds. And Edinburgh is a brilliant city to experience it in.

Below, I’ll walk through the best aparthotel options in Edinburgh’s city centre, covering both the atmospheric cobbled streets of Old Town and the Georgian elegance of New Town.
But first, a personal recommendation.
I recently spent a few nights at The Rutland Hotel & Apartments, a stylish option I can personally recommend. Stylish without being try-hard. Comfortable without feeling generic.
These apartments are located right between Old Town and New Town. You can walk to Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Princes Street, everything is just steps away.
The apartment was decorated for Christmas during my visit, which was a nice touch, if that’s the time of year you’re going. And it works well if you’re travelling with kids or just need more than one room’s worth of space.

Why youād love The Rutland Hotel & Apartments:
- Spacious one – and two-bedroom apartments (some with private gardens)
- Full kitchens, cosy living rooms, and thoughtful touches like Nespresso machines and GHD straighteners
- Underfloor heating, rainfall showers, and indulgent feature baths
- Restaurants like The Huxley and Kyloe just downstairs when you donāt feel like cooking.
